Choosing an enclosed ID card holder for hard-wearing sites

An enclosed holder seals the card on all sides, which is a different proposition from the open-faced sleeve most offices hand out. Nothing gets at the print: no rain on a building site, no hand sanitiser on a hospital ward, no thumb rubbing across the photograph a hundred times a day. The card slides in through a slot and stays there until you choose to take it out.

Which enclosed holder to choose

  • Clear enclosed holders: the everyday option in landscape or portrait, flexible enough to bend but sealed against grime. Economy and translucent eco versions sit alongside.
  • Rigid enclosed holders: a hard polished shell, with or without a 50mm thumb slot, for cards shown or swiped constantly. A frosted version is made for pocket carry, and a key ring version clips to a belt loop.
  • Lockable holders: the card is secured inside and released only with a separate red plastic key, in landscape or portrait. A permanently locking version exists for credentials that must never be swapped.
