Choosing the right Sigma DS3 ribbon
The Entrust Sigma DS3 is the workhorse of the Sigma family, the printer chosen by Irish universities, hospitals and public bodies that issue cards every working day and want them to look the same in year three as they did on day one. Its consumable of record is the YMCKT colour ribbon, and the version listed here is the Entrust 525100-001-S100, rated for 250 full-colour prints and priced from about €116 ex VAT.
YMCKT is Entrust's own panel layout. Yellow, magenta, cyan and black do the printing, and the T panel is a topcoat that seals the image against everyday wear. Other brands call this O for overlay; the function is the same.
What to look for in a Sigma DS3 ribbon
- Genuine Entrust cartridge: the Sigma printers are designed to identify the ribbon when it is loaded and track the remaining count, so a matched cartridge keeps the printer's own reporting honest.
- Print count against your volume: 250 single-sided colour cards per ribbon. A card office enrolling 800 students in September will get through three or four in a fortnight and then very few until the next intake.
- Single or dual-sided: printing colour on both sides uses two panel sets per card and halves the yield.
Compatibility across the Sigma and Datacard range
Entrust cartridges are matched to the Sigma platform, so check the code on the cartridge in the printer before assuming a ribbon from an older Datacard model will fit. The neighbouring Sigma DS2 ribbons and Sigma DS1 ribbons have their own pages, and the whole brand, including legacy SD and SP series ribbons, is under Entrust Datacard ribbons. The printers are on the Entrust Datacard printers page. Print onto 760 micron blank white cards, with a cleaning kit card at each ribbon change.

Frequently asked questions
What does YMCKT mean on an Entrust ribbon?
Yellow, magenta, cyan and black colour panels followed by a T topcoat panel. It is the Entrust equivalent of a YMCKO ribbon: full colour with a protective overlay in one pass.
How many cards does the 525100-001-S100 print?
250 single-sided colour cards. Dual-sided colour printing halves that; a rejected or reprinted card also uses a full panel set.
Will a Sigma DS2 ribbon work in a DS3?
Check the cartridge code rather than assuming. The Sigma models share a platform, but we confirm the part number against your printer before dispatch.
If you are unsure which Entrust ribbon your printer takes, call us in Dublin on 01 555 5555. We dispatch across Ireland.
