Choosing blank white cards for your ID card printer

Blank white PVC cards are the one consumable every card printer in Ireland gets through, and the one most likely to be bought on price alone and regretted. A card out of tolerance, dusty, or the wrong thickness will jam, print unevenly or score the printhead. The cards here are graded for direct-to-card and retransfer printers, from Dyestar and Fotodek stock to manufacturer packs from Zebra, HID and Evolis.

The decision that matters is thickness. The standard ID card is 760 microns (30 mil), the same as a bank card, and every printer accepts it. Thinner cards at 480, 400, 320 and 250 microns exist for self-adhesive overlays and printers such as the Evolis Badgy.

Blank white PVC cards: what to look for

  • Standard 760 micron cards in packs of 100 from Dyestar, or packs of 500 from Zebra and HID for volume printing.
  • Recycled and biodegradable versions: the Dyestar 50% recycled PVC card, the Dyestar BIOCARD and the Fotodek BIO card, all still 760 microns.
  • Cards with extras: Lo-Co and Hi-Co magnetic stripe, signature strip, round hole or slot punch for a clip, and 3-UP key tag cards.

Packs start from €13 ex VAT for 100 of the 250-micron cards, with standard 760 micron packs of 100 from about €21.

Matching cards to printers, ribbons and holders

Every card here takes a normal YMCKO or monochrome printer ribbon. Which blank white cards work with my printer?

Any 760 micron PVC card runs through Evolis, Zebra, Magicard, Fargo, IDP and Entrust direct-to-card printers. Retransfer printers often want composite or PET core cards, so check the manual or ring us.

Are these blank white ID cards the same size as a credit card?

Yes. They are CR80 format, 85.6mm by 54mm, which fits standard holders, badge reels and readers.

Do you sell blank white smart cards?

The cards on this page are plain PVC without a chip. For contactless and chip cards, call us with the reader type; Irish card offices usually run a mix of both.
