Choosing IDP Smart ribbons for your printer

IDP's Smart printers are a common sight in Irish schools and mid-sized firms, and the ribbons are sensibly organised: a six-digit part number, a panel code and a print count. The catch is that the Smart 21, 30, 31, 50, 51, 70 and 81 each take their own family of ribbons, and a ribbon bought for a Smart 50 will not do a Smart 51 any favours. The panel code tells you what the ribbon can print. YMCKO is full colour with a protective overlay, the everyday choice for photo ID. YMCKOK adds a second black panel for printing the back of the card in mono without wasting colour panels. hYMCKO half-panel ribbons print colour on half the card and roughly double the print count, which suits a small photo beside black text. YMCFKO adds a fluorescent panel visible only under UV light, for cards that need a security feature. IDP Smart ribbons start from €71 ex VAT.
