Choosing coloured PVC cards for your ID card printer

A coloured card does a job a printed background never quite manages: it reads from across a room. Irish schools use one colour per year group, hospitals separate clinical staff from contractors, and gyms hand out membership cards that look nothing like staff badges. The colour is in the plastic itself, so it will not scratch or fade the way a printed panel can.

Everything here is CR80 credit card size at 760 micron, the thickness every direct-to-card printer expects. The Dyestar cards use a coloured core rather than a surface coating, so the card edge matches the face, and the Evolis C4101 yellow and matte black cards round out the range. Packs of 100 start from €21 ex VAT. The decision that matters is the ribbon: YMCKO colour works on yellow, light gold or light blue, but on royal blue, purple, red or black the colour panels vanish. For dark cards, print with a white monochrome ribbon.
