Choosing a Magicard ID card printer

Magicard badge printers have a long footprint in Ireland, for an unglamorous reason: they are simple to run, and the range scales without a change of brand. A school office in Cork and a hospital security desk in Dublin can both find a model here that matches the number of cards they actually produce.

The range starts with the Pronto100, a single-sided printer for low volumes, moves through the Magicard 300 in single and dual-sided versions, then the 600 UNO and 600 DUO for busier departments. At the far end are the Prima retransfer printers, the 801 Uno and 802 Duo, and the Prima 451 and 452 Laminator models that add a laminate layer for cards expected to survive years on a lanyard. The E+ Event printer is built for conferences where badges are produced as delegates arrive.

Magicard 300, 600 or Prima: what to look for

  • Volume: the Pronto100 suits an office printing a handful of staff cards a week; the 300 and 600 are made for hundreds a month.
  • Single or dual-sided: the 300 comes both ways, and the 600 as UNO (single) or DUO (dual).
  • Print method: direct-to-card on the Pronto100, 300 and 600; retransfer on the Prima, for edge-to-edge print on contactless cards.
  • Durability: the Prima 451 and 452 laminate the card as it prints, for access cards and licences that get swiped daily.
