Choosing lanyards for staff, visitors and events in Ireland

A lanyard is the least glamorous item in an ID programme and the one replaced most often, so it pays to choose it once, properly. The range runs from plain 10mm recycled lanyards in eight colours to 20mm flat-weave straps with metal trigger clips, plus pre-printed staff, visitor, contractor, volunteer and first aid lanyards for sites that need a role readable across a room.

Schools, hospitals and construction sites across Ireland buy by colour and use it as a permissions system: green for visitors, yellow for contractors, black for security. Dublin offices more often want a plain black lanyard in a pack of 100 and nothing else. Every lanyard here has a breakaway that parts under a sharp pull, which matters anywhere a strap can catch on machinery or be grabbed.

What to look for in a plain or pre-printed lanyard

  • Width: 10mm bootlace-style for the lightest budget option, 15mm for pre-printed wording, 16mm and 20mm tubular or flat weaves for a heavier feel.
  • Clip: plastic J clip, metal J clip, metal lobster or metal trigger clip. Metal for anything worn daily.
  • Reels: the navy 15mm pack of 50 and the 16mm flexiweave lanyard come with a card reel already attached.
  • Material: mostly recycled polyester, with a white bamboo option and a metal bead chain for sites that want no fabric.

Holders, reels and what goes on the end

A lanyard on its own holds nothing. Pair it with a holder from our ID card holders and clips range, or add a retractable reel from ID card reels for staff who swipe at doors all day. Do you supply lanyards in Dublin and across Ireland?

Yes. We dispatch from Pace House in Dublin to every county. Plain colours are held in packs of 100, reel-fitted lanyards in packs of 50.

What is a breakaway lanyard?

A breakaway has a clip at the back of the neck that opens under a firm tug, so the strap cannot choke the wearer if it snags. Every lanyard in this range has one.

Plastic J clip or metal clip?

Plastic J clips suit visitor lanyards handed back at the end of the day. Metal lobster and trigger clips take years of daily wear, so staff lanyards should go metal.
