Choosing a lanyard with a metal clip

The clip is the part of a lanyard that fails. Plastic hooks fatigue, snap in cold weather and let go of the card at the worst moment, usually on a building site or a factory floor. A metal clip lanyard fixes that with a sprung clasp that outlasts the fabric it hangs from, which is why contractors, warehouse staff and security teams across Ireland specify them over plastic.

The range here runs from 10mm tubular breakaway lanyards to 20mm flat lanyards, in packs of 100 from €52 ex VAT, with three clip styles and a choice of plain, role-printed, rainbow and bamboo lanyards.

Lobster, trigger or metal J-clip: what to look for

  • Metal lobster clip. A small sprung clasp that opens with a thumb. Found on the 15mm Staff, Visitor, Contractor and Student lanyards, the rainbow lanyard and the white bamboo lanyard.
  • Metal trigger clip. A larger clasp with a lever action, the heavy duty option. On the 20mm recycled lanyards with flat breakaway, and on the black double clip lanyard, which holds the card at two points so it hangs straight.
  • Metal J-clip. A hooked clip that swivels. On the 10mm tubular breakaway lanyards in black and red, the lightest option here.

A metal clip pairs well with the eyelet of a rigid card holder, which is the usual match on a site or in a warehouse; the broader ID card holders and clips range covers open-faced and enclosed styles.
