Choosing a Zebra i-Series ribbon

The i-Series was Zebra's generation of card printers before the ZC and ZXP ranges, and plenty of them are still printing staff IDs in Irish offices, gyms and schools. The "i" stood for intelligent: each ribbon carries a chip that tells the printer what is loaded and how many prints remain, so the driver sets itself up and warns you before the last card.

The models in this family include the P110i and P120i desktop printers and the P330i and P430i above them, and each takes its own ribbon part numbers.

Colour or monochrome: what to look for

  • YMCKO colour ribbons print a full-colour front with a protective overlay, and are the ribbon for photo ID cards.
  • YMCKOK ribbons add a second black panel, so a dual-sided printer such as the P120i or P430i can print a colour front and a black back in one pass.
  • Monochrome ribbons in black print text, barcodes and serial numbers on pre-printed cards.

Cards, cleaning and the current Zebra range

Every i-Series printer takes standard CR80 blank white cards, and a cleaning kit at each ribbon change is cheap insurance for an older printhead. The P110i ribbons and P120i ribbons have their own pages, and the wider Zebra ribbons range covers the ZC and ZXP models. The current Zebra card printers are the successors.

Which Zebra printer ribbon fits a P430i?

The P430i takes its own i-Series ribbons, not the ZC or ZXP ones. Call with the model and we will confirm the part number before dispatch.

Can I use a ZC100 ribbon in an i-Series printer?

No. The cartridges and chips differ, and the printer will reject a ribbon it does not recognise.

Are i-Series ribbons still available in Ireland?

Yes. We hold them for the Irish customers still running these printers, with fast dispatch from Dublin.
