Choosing the right Evolis ribbon for your printer
Evolis has built card printers for a quarter of a century and the Evolis printer ribbon codes have multiplied with every generation. They are not random. Ribbons beginning with R are for the direct-to-card printers; those beginning with RT are retransfer ribbons and films for the Avansia and Agilia. Get the family right and the rest is print count and panel type.
This collection holds every genuine Evolis ribbon we supply to Irish organisations: YMCKO colour from 100 to 500 prints, half-panel YMCKO for cards with only a small colour area, YMCKO-K and YMCKOK with a second black panel for the back of the card, KO black with overlay at 500 and 600 prints, and the YMCK, YMCKK, YMCFK and YMCKH retransfer ribbons and films. The half-panel ribbons deserve a mention. If your card has a small colour logo and the rest is black text, a half-panel YMCKO gives 400 prints where a full panel gives 200 or 300, at a lower cost per card.

Each Evolis printer accepts a specific set of ribbons, so start from the model. Frequently asked questions
Which Evolis colour ribbon YMCKO do I need?
Check the code on the cartridge already in the printer. The R3011 is a 200 print YMCKO for earlier machines and the R5F208E100 a 300 print YMCKO for current ones; they are not interchangeable.
What does the O in YMCKO do?
It is a clear overlay applied over the image. Without it a card handled daily fades and scuffs within months. Retransfer ribbons skip it because the film provides its own protection.
Can I use a black-only ribbon for visitor passes?
Yes. The KO ribbons print text and a barcode with an overlay, and at 500 or 600 prints cost far less per card than colour. Many Irish reception desks keep one for passes.
