Choosing the right Magicard 300 ribbon for your cards

A Magicard 300 in an Irish office tends to do one of two jobs: full-colour photo ID for staff, students or members, or plain black text and barcodes onto pre-printed card stock. The ribbon you load decides which, and it also decides your cost per card, so it is worth knowing what the letters on the box mean.

YMCKO is the standard full-colour ribbon: yellow, magenta, cyan and black panels, then a clear overlay that protects the print. YMCKOK adds a second black panel so a dual-sided printer can put colour on the front and text on the back in one pass. A plain K ribbon is monochrome only, and runs to a thousand prints for a fraction of the price.
