Choosing pre-printed lanyards for staff, visitors and students

A lanyard with VISITOR woven along its length does a job no photo card can. It tells everyone in the building who this person is and whether they should be unescorted, which is why printed lanyards are standard issue in Irish schools, hospitals, offices and event venues.

The range covers nine roles, Staff, Employee, Visitor, Contractor, Volunteer, Student, First Aid, Event Staff and VIP, on 15mm recycled lanyards in a spread of colours. Every option is a pack of 100, from €60 ex VAT, and the HSE logo lanyard is stocked for health service sites.

Printed lanyards: what to look for

  • Breakaway. The safety clasp behind the neck opens under a sharp tug, which you want anywhere a lanyard might catch on a door handle, a machine or another child. Several Visitor and Student packs include one; the title says which.
  • Clip type. The plastic J clip is light and quiet and suits an office badge. The metal lobster clip takes more punishment and pairs better with rigid holders and reels.
  • Colour coding. Red for visitors, green for volunteers and first aiders, yellow for contractors.

Pairing lanyards with holders

A pre-printed lanyard is half of a badge; the holder is the other half. A J clip slides into the slot of an open-faced holder, while a lobster clip suits a rigid or enclosed one; see ID card holders and clips. Frequently asked questions

Can I buy printed lanyards in Ireland in small quantities?

The stock packs are 100 lanyards each. For a handful of one role, or a mix of roles, call us and we will sort it from Dublin.

Do pre-printed lanyards come with a breakaway?

Some do and some do not; the title says which. For schools, wards and workshops, choose the packs that include it.

What is the difference between a J clip and a lobster clip?

A J clip is a hooked plastic clip that swivels into a holder slot without scratching the card. A lobster clip is a sprung metal clasp, sturdier and better suited to reels and rigid holders.
