Choosing the right ribbon for a Magicard Pronto

The Pronto is the printer people buy when they need a few dozen cards a month and no fuss, so it follows that the ribbon choice should be simple too. It is, once you know what the letters mean. YMCKO is full colour: yellow, magenta, cyan and black panels plus a clear overlay that protects the print. K is black only. KO is black with the overlay.

For schools and clubs across Ireland printing photo ID a handful at a time, the MA100YMCKO gives 100 colour prints and the MA300YMCKO gives 300. For visitor passes, asset labels or anything that only needs text and a barcode, the MA1000K black ribbon runs to 1,000 prints and has the lowest cost per card in the range, from €36 ex VAT. The MA1000K white version does the same job on dark or coloured card stock.

The overlay matters more than it looks. A K ribbon without the O panel leaves print exposed, which is fine for a day pass but not for a card swiped daily for two years.

Cards, cleaning and related Magicard ribbons

These ribbons pair with standard 760 micron blank white cards, and a pass with a cleaning card from the printer cleaning kits at every ribbon change keeps the printhead from picking up dust. Frequently asked questions

Which Magicard Pronto ribbon do I need for full colour?

MA100YMCKO or MA300YMCKO. Both print full colour with a protective overlay; the difference is 100 versus 300 prints per ribbon.

Does the MA1000K ribbon include an overlay?

No. The K ribbon prints black only. If you want the print protected, the MA600KO adds the overlay panel at 600 prints per ribbon.

Are these genuine Magicard ribbons?
