Choosing the right Evolis Primacy 2 ribbon

The Evolis Primacy 2 is the printer that a great many Irish HR departments, colleges and leisure centres settled on for dual-sided staff and member cards, and its ribbons follow the same logic as the printer: one colour cartridge for the photo side, one monochrome cartridge for the text side, and a holographic patch for anyone who needs the card to be visibly hard to copy.

Evolis Primacy 2 colour ribbon versus monochrome: which to buy

  • R5F208E100 YMCKO, 300 prints: the standard full-colour ribbon with a clear overlay, for any card with a photo or a colour logo.
  • RCT223NAAA black, 2,000 prints: plain black resin for names, numbers and barcodes. On a dual-sided printer this is what usually goes on the back.
  • RCT219NAAA BlackFLEX, 1,000 prints: a black ribbon designed for card surfaces that standard resin adheres to less well.
  • LPS029NAA holo patch, 600 prints: a holographic overlay applied after printing, for cards where tamper-evidence matters.

Fitting a Primacy cartridge and what to keep alongside it

The Primacy 2 takes its ribbon as a drop-in cartridge, so swapping colour for black between jobs takes seconds.
