Choosing an Evolis Tattoo ribbon
The Evolis Tattoo and Tattoo 2 were built for a specific job: quick, inexpensive cards in one colour, the kind of thing a leisure centre in Cork or a Dublin library prints at the desk while the member waits. They are still doing that job in plenty of Irish organisations, and the ribbon they need is the Evolis R2011 black monochrome, rated for 1,000 prints.
Monochrome is the whole idea. A black ribbon lays down a single panel per card, so there are no colour panels to waste, no overlay to align and a print count several times what a colour ribbon offers. Names, membership numbers, barcodes and a logo all print crisply in black on a white card, and if you want colour on the card you print the black onto coloured card stock and let the card do the rest. The Evolis Tattoo ribbon is €24 ex VAT.
What to look for when reordering
- Part number. R2011 is the one. Evolis monochrome ribbons for other models carry different R-numbers, so check the box before you order a handful.
- Print count. 1,000 single-sided prints. At €24 that is under three cent per card before card stock, which is why the Tattoo is still the choice for high-volume, low-cost cards.
- Storage. Keep spare ribbons sealed and out of sunlight; a monochrome ribbon left open picks up dust that ends up as specks on the card.
Cards, cleaning and other Evolis ribbons
Feed the Tattoo with blank white cards or, for colour-coded membership tiers, coloured plastic cards with black print on top. The Evolis Tattoo printer has its own page, and if you have since moved to a newer machine the Zenius ribbons and Pebble ribbons collections cover those, with everything else under Evolis ribbons. Stock ships from Dublin to Irish customers.

Frequently asked questions
Which ribbon fits the Evolis Tattoo 2?
The Evolis R2011 black monochrome ribbon, 1,000 prints. It is the ribbon stocked here for the Tattoo range.
Can the Evolis Tattoo print in colour?
The ribbon stocked for it is black monochrome. For full-colour photo ID you would look at a Zenius or Primacy with a YMCKO ribbon.
How many cards does the R2011 ribbon print?
1,000 single-sided cards. Printing both sides of a card uses two prints, so budget 500 double-sided cards per ribbon.
If your Tattoo is showing lines or faint print, call 01 555 5555; it is usually the ribbon or the printhead, and we can help you tell which.
