Choosing ID card printer accessories and upgrades

A card printer is rarely bought fully specified. The lamination module gets added when cards start coming back scuffed, the larger hopper when someone is tired of refilling it, the spare parts kit when the printer becomes something the organisation cannot afford to have down for a week. This range is those additions: the modules and packs that turn a standard printer into the one you actually need.

What to look for when adding a module

  • Exact printer match. A lamination module for the HDP5000 does not fit the HDP6600; each is built for one machine. Check the model on the front of your printer, not the family name.
  • Single or dual-sided lamination. The Fargo HDP5000 module and the Magicard Prima laminators come in both, and the choice should follow the printer's own duplex capability.
  • Hopper capacity. The IDP Smart input and output hopper modules only earn their place if you print in runs of hundreds.

Consumables to go with the upgrade

A laminator adds a second consumable, the laminate film, alongside the ribbon, so budget for both under printer ribbons and consumables. The smaller accessories live in their own collections: printer cleaning kits, printer power supplies, ribbon shredders and other accessories.
