Choosing vinyl ID card holders for daily wear

Vinyl is the flexible, soft-plastic holder that most Irish workplaces reach for first: it is light, it costs a few cent per card, and it keeps a printed ID readable through a year of pockets, car footwells and door readers. Where a rigid holder protects a card from bending, a vinyl badge holder protects it from everything else.

The decision that matters is size. Most staff and access control cards are credit-card size, which the 91x65mm holders are cut for. Visitor passes, event badges and conference name cards tend to be larger, hence the 102x83mm and A6 holders in the range. Measure the card first.

What to look for in a vinyl badge holder

  • Orientation. Landscape suits a card with a photo on the left and text to the right; portrait suits a photo above a name.
  • Coloured tops. Red, dark blue, black, blue, white, green and yellow strips let a receptionist spot a visitor or contractor without reading the card.
  • Purpose-made holders. The windscreen car park pass holder sticks inside a vehicle, and the armband holders keep an ID on a sleeve where a lanyard would be unsafe.
