Building an IDP Smart 70 system for high-volume card printing

The Smart 70 is a different proposition from a desktop badge printer. It is modular: a print engine at the centre, with an input hopper, output hopper, flipper and laminator that bolt on as your needs change. For a university in Dublin issuing ten thousand student cards each September, or a hospital group standardising staff ID across several sites in Ireland, that is the point.

Two configurations are listed: the Starter System and the Full System. Around them sit the individual modules. The 651156 Input Hopper Module holds 500 cards, the 651158 Output Hopper Module collects 500 finished cards, the 651155 Flipper Module turns the card for dual-sided printing, and the 651157 Single-Sided Laminator Module (the Smart 70s laminator) applies a protective laminate for cards expected to last years of daily use.

Which Smart 70 modules do you need

  • Unattended batch printing: an input hopper of 500 cards and a matching output hopper mean an operator loads once and walks away.
  • Dual-sided cards: the flipper module. Without it, cards print single-sided only.
  • Access and licence cards: the laminator module. Lamination protects the print from swipe wear.

Individual modules are priced from €990 ex VAT; the printer systems themselves are priced on request, since the configuration determines the figure.

Ribbons, laminates and the rest of the IDP Smart range

The Smart 70 has its own consumables, listed under Smart 70 ribbons. If the volume does not justify a modular system, the desktop IDP Smart 51 and IDP Smart 31 cover most office needs, and the full IDP Smart card printers collection compares them. Other laminating machines are gathered under laminating printers, and standard 760 micron blank white cards feed the Smart 70 as they do any other model.

Is the IDP Smart 70 the right smart ID card printer for a large Irish organisation?

It is built for that scale. The 500-card hoppers and modular design suit institutions that issue cards in the thousands rather than the dozens.

What is the difference between the Starter System and the Full System?

The names indicate the configuration level: the Starter System is the base build and the Full System the more complete one. Call us and we will confirm exactly what each includes for your order.

Can I add the laminator module later?

Yes. The modular design is intended for that, so a laminator can be added when you need it.
