Choosing a Magicard 300 ID card printer

The Magicard 300 occupies the sensible middle of the Magicard range. It is more printer than the Pronto100, which is built for a reception desk and a few cards a week, and less than the 600, which is aimed at high-volume issuing. For a company of a few hundred staff, a sports club with a membership card, or a secondary school printing photo IDs every September, the 300 is usually the model that fits, listed here from €1,555 ex VAT.

It prints directly onto standard PVC, and both versions are here: the single-sided Magicard 300 and the dual-sided 300, sometimes called the 300 Duo. Which you need comes down to one question about the back of the card.

Magicard 300 single-sided or dual-sided

ModelPrintsSuitsPrice ex VAT
Magicard 300 (Single-Sided)Front onlyStaff photo ID, membership cards€1,555
Magicard 300 (Dual-Sided)Front and back in one passCards with terms, contacts or a barcode on the reverse€1,700

A dual-sided printer will happily print single-sided cards, so if the back of the card is even a possibility, the dual-sided model is the safer buy. Flipping a stack by hand to print the reverse is where misfeeds and wasted ribbon panels come from.

Ribbons, cards and where the 300 sits in the range

The printer takes the dedicated Magicard 300 ribbons: YMCKO for colour fronts, YMCKOK where a black back panel is wanted, and monochrome for visitor passes. It prints on standard blank white cards. The Magicard 600 is the step up, the Pronto100 the step down, and the full Magicard ID card printers page has the lot. The dual-sided printers collection lines the 300 up against its Evolis, Fargo and Zebra equivalents.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Magicard 300 price in Ireland?

The single-sided Magicard 300 is €1,555 ex VAT and the dual-sided version €1,700 ex VAT, with fast dispatch from Dublin. Ribbons and cards are priced separately.

Is the Magicard 300 a badge printer or a card printer?

Both. It prints onto CR80 plastic cards, which is what staff badges, membership cards and access cards all are.

How is the Magicard 300 different from the 600?

The 600 is built for higher volume and faster throughput. If you print in bursts of a few hundred cards a year, the 300 does the same job in Irish offices for less.
