Choosing a Magicard Pronto ID card printer

The Pronto is the Magicard for organisations that need ID cards without needing a card office: a GAA club with 200 members, a Dublin creche printing staff badges twice a year, a small hotel issuing name badges to new starters. Both printers on this page, the original Magicard Pronto and the newer Pronto100, are single-sided machines, and both are the kind of printer you can unbox, plug in and be printing from within the hour.

Single-sided is the point to think about. The Pronto prints the front of the card only, so if you want text on the reverse you either feed the card a second time or you look at a dual-sided model further up the Magicard range. For a photo, a name and a logo, which is what most Irish clubs and small firms actually print, single-sided is exactly enough. Pricing for both is on request by phone.

Pronto or Pronto100: what to look for

The sensible way to pick between them is by consumables rather than by brochure. The Pronto100 is the current model and takes its own ribbon family; the original Pronto has its own ribbons too, still stocked, so an existing machine is not stranded. Think about volume honestly: 150 cards a year is a different job to 150 a month, and the Pronto is happiest at the lower end, printing in batches rather than all day. If you are buying new, the Pronto100 is the one to look at first.
