Choosing an Evolis Zenius ID card printer

The Zenius is the Evolis that most Irish organisations actually need: a single-sided printer for staff badges, student cards and membership cards, in volumes a reception desk or school office can handle. This page covers the Zenius Classic and Zenius Expert, in standard, Grey Brown and Fire Red finishes, the Zenius 2 Classic and Zenius 2 Expert, and an Expert fitted with an OMNIKEY 5122 smart card and contactless encoder.

Classic or Expert is the decision. The Classic is the plain printer: connect it, load a ribbon, print. The Expert is the version that takes encoders, which is why the encoder-equipped model is an Expert, and in the Zenius 2 generation it is also the one with Ethernet. Every Zenius is single-sided, so if the back of your card has to carry more than a preprinted design, the Evolis Primacy 2 in Duplex form is the next step up. Evolis Zenius printers start from €1,032 ex VAT.

Zenius Classic vs Zenius Expert: what to look for

  • Zenius Classic, also in Grey Brown and Fire Red: the plain printer with no encoding, from €1,032 ex VAT.
  • Zenius Expert, also in Grey Brown: the version that accepts encoders, from €1,185 ex VAT.
  • Zenius Expert Smart and Contactless: the Expert with an OMNIKEY 5122 smart card and contactless encoder already fitted, €2,006 ex VAT.
  • Zenius 2 Classic (USB) and Zenius 2 Expert (USB and Ethernet): the current generation, priced on request by phone.

The Grey Brown and Fire Red finishes are cosmetic, though a red printer on a school counter does tend to stay where it was put.

Ribbons, cards and cleaning for the Zenius
