Choosing ribbons for a Fargo C30 card printer
The Fargo C30 is the compact single-sided printer that introduced a great many Irish schools, clubs and small offices to printing their own ID cards. Plenty are still on a desk somewhere in Dublin, asking for nothing more than a fresh ribbon now and then.
The decision is colour or monochrome. A YMCKO colour ribbon prints full photo ID with a clear overlay that protects the finished card. A K monochrome ribbon prints black text and barcodes only, at many more cards per roll and a lower price, which suits visitor passes. Because the C30 is single-sided, there is no need for the double-black YMCKOK ribbons that dual-sided printers use.
What to look for when replacing a C30 ribbon
- Read the code. Fargo ribbons are keyed to the printer family, and the code on the cartridge you remove is the surest match.
- Use the cleaning roller. Many Fargo ribbons include one; dust on the rollers is the usual cause of specks on an older printer.
