Choosing a Fargo C50 ribbon for an entry-level card printer

The Fargo C50 is the printer people buy when they need to print ID cards but do not need to think about it often. A community centre, a small Irish business, a sports club, a school. It is single-sided and straightforward, and its ribbons are the same: a full colour YMCKO.

The YMCKO ribbon prints yellow, magenta, cyan and black in turn, then lays a clear overlay on top. Because the C50 prints one side only, there is no black-back panel to consider. The decision is how many to keep, since volume is lumpy: a burst at the start of term, then very little. A spare on the shelf, sealed and out of sunlight, covers it.

What to check before ordering a C50 ribbon

  • The part number on the cartridge already in the printer; only the C50 part fits the C50.
  • The cleaning roller. Fargo ribbons usually ship with one; fit it at the same time as the ribbon.
  • Yield against your annual card count. Pricing and availability are on request by phone.

The C50 prints on standard PVC from blank white cards, and a cleaning kit keeps the head clear between ribbon changes. Its predecessor's consumables are under Fargo C30 ribbons, and the DTC1250 ribbons are a different part.
