Choosing the Fargo HDP5000e retransfer printer
The white border a direct-to-card printer leaves around every card is invisible until you put a full-bleed design on it, and then it is all you can see. The Fargo HDP5000e avoids it by printing onto a clear film and fusing that film to the card, which is what retransfer means. The image reaches the card edge, and it works on the uneven surface of a contactless smart card that a direct printhead would struggle with. That is why the HDP5000 has been the choice of Irish universities, hospitals and public bodies issuing cards that double as access credentials.
This collection holds the HDP5000e in single-sided and dual-sided versions, the earlier HDP5000 single-sided printer, and the lamination modules for both, in single-sided and dual-sided form. All are priced on request; ring 01 555 5555 for a quote.
Single, dual or laminated: what to look for
- Dual-sided if your cards carry anything on the back. Retransfer takes longer per card, so flipping by hand costs more time than on a direct-to-card model.
- A lamination module if cards will be swiped or worn daily for years. The laminate adds a further protective layer over the retransfer film and can carry a security pattern.
- The right module. The HDP5000 88935 and 88936 modules are listed separately from the HDP5000e modules; order the one that matches your printer.
Ribbons, film and the rest of the Fargo range
A retransfer printer uses two consumables, a colour ribbon and a clear retransfer film, both under HDP5000 ribbons. Blank cards are standard 760 micron and any pack of blank white cards will do. For the newer model in the same family see Fargo HDP6600, for every retransfer machine we stock see retransfer printers, and for the full line, Fargo card printers. Everything dispatches from Dublin.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between the Fargo HDP5000 and HDP5000e?
The HDP5000e is the current version of the same retransfer printer. Both are listed here, and each takes its own lamination module.
Does the HDP5000e print edge to edge?
Yes. Because the image is printed on film and then transferred, it covers the whole card face with no white border.
Can it print on contactless access cards?
Yes. Retransfer copes with the slightly uneven surface over an embedded chip or antenna, which is a common reason Irish organisations choose it over direct-to-card.
To price an HDP5000e for your card programme, call 01 555 5555 and tell us the volume and whether the cards carry a chip.
