Choosing ribbons for a Magicard Tango printer
A Magicard Tango still printing cards in an Irish office has almost certainly earned its keep. It is a dual-sided printer from an earlier Magicard generation, the kind of machine a county council bought years ago and kept going because it works. Keeping it going means finding the right ribbon.
The decision is the same as for any Magicard: colour or monochrome, and single or double black panel. A YMCKO ribbon prints full-colour photo ID with a protective overlay. A YMCKOK adds a second black panel, so the Tango can print colour on the front and black text on the back in one pass. A plain K monochrome ribbon prints black text and barcodes only, at far more prints per roll.
What to look for when replacing a Tango ribbon
- Read the code. Magicard ribbons are keyed to the printer family, and older machines are particular about it.
- Clean at every change. Older printers gather dust in the card path, and a cleaning pass prevents faint lines that get blamed on the ribbon.
