Label ribbons, receipt rolls and wristbands: the consumables beyond the card printer
Most organisations that print ID cards also print something else: shelf labels in a stores department, receipts at a reception till, patient wristbands on a ward. This collection gathers the thermal transfer ribbons, receipt paper and wristband cartridges that Irish hospitals, warehouses and retailers get through alongside their card stock. Pricing is on request, because most of it is bought by the case.
Three families are listed. Zebra thermal transfer ribbons in wax (2100, 3200 and 3400 grades) and resin (4800 and 5095) for label printers, in widths from 40mm to 220mm, mostly on 450m rolls. Star Micronics thermal receipt paper in 58mm, 80mm and 112mm widths. And Zebra Z-Band wristbands: UltraSoft, Splash, Fun and Direct infant bands.
Wax, resin or paper: what to look for
- Wax ribbons (Zebra 2100, 3200, 3400) print onto paper labels at low cost and suit shipping labels, shelf edges and anything with a short life indoors.
- Resin ribbons (Zebra 4800, 5095) bond to synthetic labels and resist chemicals and abrasion, which is what asset tags and laboratory labels need.
- Ribbon width should match or slightly exceed the label width; a 110mm ribbon on a 102mm label is right, a 60mm ribbon on the same label prints a stripe.
- Wristbands: Z-Band UltraSoft for long inpatient stays, Splash where the band will get wet, Fun for events and paediatric wards.
Where these sit alongside your card printer consumables
None of these go through an ID card printer; they feed the label, receipt and wristband printers beside it. The card printer's own consumables are under ID card printer ribbons and consumables, and the housekeeping items, from cleaning kits and power supplies to ribbon shredders, are under ID card printing accessories and supplies. The blank cards for printing range covers the cards themselves.

Frequently asked questions
How do I choose between wax and resin ribbon for a Zebra label printer?
Paper labels indoors: wax. Synthetic labels, outdoor use, or anything exposed to solvents or handling: resin. Match the ribbon width to the label.
Which Zebra wristband should a hospital use?
Z-Band UltraSoft for adult and child inpatients, the infant bands for neonatal wards, and Splash bands where the patient is likely to shower.
Why is pricing on request?
Pricing depends on case quantity and, for wristbands, on the cartridge format your printer takes. Call with your printer model and monthly usage.
